Dance/Movement Therapy Group Process Six-day course (3 ADTA credits - 45 hours) July 25, 26, 27 (On Line) and August 1, 2, 3 (In-person) Time: 9:30 AM -6:00 PM Pacific Time Location: HYBRID: first 3 days on Zoom, second 3 days in Palo Alto, CA In this experiential and didactic course participants will explore theories and methods of group process in DMT while strengthening their group leadership skills. Participants will explore the theoretical concepts of group therapy innovator, Irving Yalom and discover how expressive dance can be used to create the building blocks for effective group development. Through dance experience, participants will delve into dance/movement therapy theory and practice with a focus on the group process in the Blanche Evan method for the higher functioning client, Marian Chace method for the more fragile client and Bonnie Bernstein’s method of Empowerment-Focused dance/movement therapy for trauma recovery. Some of the topics include: The roles of the therapist in the DMT group; Assessment and treatment planning; Session development to encourage expressive and communicative movement; Neurobiological research related to empathy and symbolic imagery; Race/culture/gender identity sensitivity while developing group themes; and response to challenges that arise within the group therapy process. “This course has been approved by the ADTA as meeting requirements toward the Alternate Route R-DMT.” FOR MORE INFORMATION AND REGISTRATION CONTACT: Bonnie Bernstein at bon4dance@gmail.com.
